“Online advertising will face a number of hurdles over the next year, according to Deloitte’s Media Predictions report, published today (January 22). It predicts that consumers will become hostile towards to online advertising, as part of a backlash against behaviour tracking.

This antipathy towards online advertising will not be helped by slowing in the growth of broadband connections in key markets, such as the US and the UK.

Deloitte say that advertisers should offer the user incentives, such as free content, for using online advertising.

The report also says the industry should position online advertising as one part of the media mix within a campaign, not as a lone platform to go head-to-head with traditional media. Competition from traditional media will also rise, with TV bolstered by internet television.

The sector must also watch for greater regulatory pressure as online advertising becomes more successful.”

I think this is definitely something we can introduce to our clients who are aching for some web based activity (or the clients that we are aching to get some web based activity going for). It’s a cool “how to” and I use widget constantly. The interesting thing is that there a widget was created for a reason and you can guarantee at least one person is using it. Though, I have to say my favorite part of this article was the appearance by Flight of the Conchords and Harry Potter!

This is pretty interesting. I am curious to see what kind of sound it creates. I say this because, no matter how cool it looks, if it does the same thing as any online piano program does, then it won’t be a lasting project. Although, I am definitely intersted to see what it does.

I will continue to speak for the virtual worlds on this. If we put a Popeyes Chicken in 3 worlds (ex: Second Life, There.com, MTV’s virtual World)and ran promotions and events for the candidate, we can run the same things in the virtual world as we do in this one.

We can do even more in the virtual world, such as create t-shirts that say “I’m Bonafide” and sell them or give them to the winners of the contest for who can create the spicy sauce recipe.

We can have a contest for designing a whole new store for Popeyes. We can sponsor events such as candidate debates, or awards, or the fitness trials.

We can even have billboards in the virtual world, that ask “How Bonafide Are You?” and when you select it or follow the signs, it takes you to Popeyes or the candidate avatar, and you can ask the avatar questions.

I realize this is very very long, and mostly stream of consciousness, but I wanted to let you all know that we can literally do anything in the virtual worlds and it isn’t something we can pass up!

Cajun Man
This candidate reminds me of a mix between an AA man with cajun flair, and Captain Jack Sparrow. He gets into trouble and makes fun of things but you can’t help but love him. He stands for fun, bold tastes, and the real bonified chicken at Popeyes.

Chicken
This candidate is one who can speak to the common man. He/she understands the toil of the 9-5 and can squawk on their level. He/she stands for all that is true and pure in this world, and will stop at nothing to make those ideals realized in the presidency.

Popeyes Young Employee
Not to be prejudiced, but this is my vote. This candidate came from the backroom of a Popeyes Chicken. He/she was trained in the right way to make chicken, and treat customers, and is outraged at the state of a world that would put pre-frozen food in front of a person and call it a meal. This candidate will never rest until the wrongs are righted and the world can become bonafide, in the only way, the Popeyes way.

When I studied Interactive Design, we fooled around with coding that allowed the ad/web pages/any content to exist outside of the browser window using Flash. I can see how this capability could be used in an innovative and creative way, but just slapping a web banner ad into a floating window isn’t it. I say, Pass.

I hate ‘em. They’re intrusive – regardless of how creative the ad itself is. I’d rather see something along the lines of “This site/page/article/shiny new llama is brought to you by whatever, incorporated.” and let the advertiser skin the site/page/article/llama however they’d like, provide links to whatever, inc’s site/promotion/llama brush, and provide space for an ad that can be watched voluntarily…
